Principal’s Message:

On behalf of the Desert Mirage High School Faculty and Staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome. I am extremely excited about joining the Ram family, and becoming a part of the amazing team we are building, and the wonderful things that are happening here at Desert Mirage High School.

I bring a total of 22 years of experience as an educator. This school year will be my 11th year as a high school site administrator. I have a wealth of knowledge and strategies on how to improve our student outcomes, but I am always open to receive input and suggestions from our various stakeholders. Students’ high school years are arguably the most influential time in their educational lives. To that end, working with staff here at Desert Mirage High School, I will continue to support our students to ensure that they are prepared for college and career.

Looking back at school year 2012-2013, I am pleased to hear about some of the examples of student excellence. There were four seniors who received the Gates Millennium scholarships. Members of the Desert Mirage HS United Nations Team attended the Huntington Beach Novice 35 Conference, and are getting ready for two more competitions this school year. The first event this school year is the South Orange County Model UN XXII on September 28, 2013 at Rancho Santa Margarita Catholic High School. The second event is on January 25, 2014 at Edison High School in Huntington Beach. Let’s support our Desert Mirage HS United Nations Team.

Our CAHSEE passage rate continues to increase, with the percentage of students scoring at the proficient level or above increasing by 6%. There were 10 students who had perfect scores on the English Language Arts portion of the exam. I am extremely proud of the outstanding work by our students and English department to make this possible! Desert Mirage HS received a check for $3,000 from the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership for having the highest percentage of CVUSD students complete the FAFSA at 51%. Thank you to the teachers, counselors, support staff and parents who made this possible. Research shows that 9 out of 10 students who complete the FAFSA go onto enter college. Our goal for this coming school year is to have 100% of our seniors complete the FAFSA. We have to beat Indio!

Our sports teams, the band, our cheerleaders, ASB and others are all getting ready for a fun filled and academically challenging school year. Let’s build on the successes from last year. I look forward to working with all of our staff, parents and students to make 2013-2014 an exceptional school year for all of us!

¡Sí, se puede!
